ACCESS GUIDE

​

Garrison House is set in a quiet location just inside the Garrison Gate, on the outskirts of Hugh Town. The house is over 300 years old and while we aim to meet the needs of our guests, it may not be suitable for people with limited mobility, particularly wheelchair users. Garrison House is located on a steep hill (approximately 1 in 8) and although the guest apartment is on the ground floor, the rooms and doorways are not proportioned to accommodate wheelchairs. Most importantly, the apartment has been created within our house so you have the benefit of on-site owners.

 

Access

  • There is one small step up and a small step over the threshold at the main entrance

  • There is one small step over the threshold and a further step down into the internal porch at the lower entrance to the living area

  • There is one step up to the ensuite in the King Size bedroom with a further small step to enter the shower cubicle

  • Access to the shower in the Super King bedroom ensuite is via the bath

  • From the bedroom hallway to the living area there is a flight of 10 open tread wooden stairs, turning to the right. The treads are highlighted with white tape. There is a hand rail on the left where the treads are at their widest

  • The garden is accessed via the Lower door, a short walk along the lane and up 9 granite steps on the left. The steps turn to the right and then to the left onto a paved patio area with seating. There are a further 3 paved steps down to the main garden and then 3 paved steps up to a grass path and along to a wooden decked area with seating

  • The garden is steeply terraced and is therefore unsuitable for small children, games etc.

  • Bedrooms are carpeted. Super King size bedroom ensuite has wooden floor, King size bedroom ensuite has vinyl floor

  • Flooring is wood effect Karndean throughout with the addition of a non slip rug in the lounge

  • The beamed ceiling is at a height of 6 feet

Additional Information

​

  • The house is centrally heated throughout and there are individual thermostats on each radiator. During times when the heating is not in use, there are 2 electric heaters in the living area and a wall fan heater in the Super King ensuite

  • There is a fire extinguisher in the hall outside the bedrooms & a fire blanket and extinguisher in the kitchen. Fire notices are posted in both bedrooms and in the living area

  • There is an emergency light situated in the hallway

  • There are smoke detectors in each room

  • There is a carbon monoxide detector in the living room

  • The building can be evacuated via the main front door and the lower porch door, both on ground floor levels. Please assemble on the owner’s decked area, through the gate on Star Castle side if required

  • There is a bell by the front door that may be rung to attract our attention or in the event of an emergency

  • If your mobile phone reception is poor, our landline can be requested in an emergency. Otherwise there is a public telephone box at the bottom of the hill

  • We do not have the facility to prepare documents in braille.

  • We are not able to accept service dogs in to the Apartment as there are too many steps/stairs to negotiate

Getting Here

Skybus taxi service from airport to the Garrison Arch

On foot up hill from the quay, 5 mins

Parking - only required should you wish to hire a golf buggy during your stay (Ask for details)

50 metres walk from the Garrison arch to the main entrance

Luggage can be brought to the house via local haulier from the Scillonian, details on website

Arrivals & Departures

ARRIVAL & DEPARTURES

      

Changeovers are on Thursdays

​

For the last 2 weeks of March & October although Skybus flight schedules remain consistent, holidaymakers should be aware that Scillonian III sailing times may warrant some alteration to changeover day.

 

The apartment will usually be available by 12.30 pm. You are welcome to deposit your luggage at Garrison House if you arrive before the apartment is ready.

 

If arriving by Scillonian clearly label bags with the 'GH Apartment address' and 'for collection by Richard Hand'. It will automatically be delivered for a small fee (£1.50 per bag). 

A ticket will be attached giving return arrangements & payment details.

 

We request that the apartment is vacated by 9.30 am on your day of departure. Luggage may be left at the house for later collection.

Holiday Insurance & Cancellation Policy

HOLIDAY INSURANCE & CANCELLATION POLICY

 

When booking a holiday on the Isles of Scilly you will be booking an off-shore holiday. It is wise to consider holiday insurance which covers such contingencies as delayed departure because of weather or technical difficulties. Unfortunately, there are times when holidays have to be cancelled for whatever reason and whilst every effort will be made to re-let cancelled accommodation, you are advised that in the unlikely event that the apartment is not re-let, you will be liable for the full cost of the holiday. Deposits are non refundable and may only be carried over to a new date where the cancellation has been re-let. It cannot be recommended strongly enough that you have holiday insurance as despite our popularity, there is no guarantee that cancellations, particularly last minute, can be re-let.
